Malawi: Coca-Cola Beverages Malawi inaugurates a new production line to boost its manufacturing capacity

Strategic expansion in Southern Africa

Coca-Cola Beverages Malawi Limited (CCBM), a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa – the American giant Coca-Cola Company ‘s main bottler in Africa – announced on April 17 the launch of a new production line at its Lilongwe plant. This initiative is part of the regional expansion strategy of the group, which is already present in 14 sub-Saharan African countries.

A major investment to support local and regional growth

Worth a total of $14.9 million, this new investment will enable CCBM to increase its production capacity by 19,200 bottles per hour, with formats ranging from 300 ml to 2 liters. The aim is twofold: to meet growing demand on the Malawian market, and to boost export capacity to neighboring markets, notably Zambia, where the group also operates a production unit.

“This investment in Malawi reaffirms our local commitment: to produce, distribute and source locally as much as possible. It reflects our confidence in the country’s future,” emphasizes the official press release.

Promising market prospects

Statista forecasts predict strong growth for the soft drinks sector in the region. In Malawi, sales are expected to reach $437.3 million in 2025, with an estimated average annual growth rate of 8.83% to 2029. In Zambia, revenues are expected to reach $342.6 million in the same year, with a similar growth rate of 8.7% per annum.

Increased competition to be expected

To consolidate its position, Coca-Cola Beverages Africa will nevertheless have to face fierce competition from both local operators and rival multinationals such as PepsiCo, also active in the region.

Conclusion

With this new production line, Coca-Cola Beverages Malawi confirms its ambitions to become a key player in the industrial landscape of Southern Africa. However, in a dynamic and competitive market, success will depend on the Group’s ability to innovate and adapt to changes in local and regional demand.
