FIBA Africa training camps for young basketball players to return in 2024
Camps for African youth
Young basketball players aged 15 to 16, from around twenty African countries, have reason to be enthusiastic with the return of the regional camps organised by FIBA Africa. The 2024 edition, organised in collaboration with the NBA, will take place in Douala (Cameroon) and Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).
These four-day camps will offer players born in 2008 and 2009, as well as their coaches, elite training focused on improving individual and team skills. The program will also emphasize values such as team spirit, perseverance and commitment.
Organization of camps in two sessions
As in previous years, FIBA Africa will organize two separate camps. The boys’ camp will be held from October 14 to 17 at the Japoma Sports Complex gymnasium in Douala. The girls’ camp will be held from October 21 to 24 at the Palais des sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
A collaboration with FIBA America
A major new feature this year is a partnership between FIBA Africa and FIBA America. This collaboration allows FIBA America to provide its technical and educational expertise, thereby strengthening the quality of training. Through this partnership, young basketball players will benefit from the advice of specialists from one of the most important basketball federations in the world.
These camps are part of FIBA Africa’s development program, which, since 2021, has reached 80% of African countries.
Camps that go beyond sport
According to Cheikh Sarr, Rwanda national team coach and former director of the regional youth camps, these camps are not only an opportunity for players, but also for coaches. “These camps provide an ideal platform where coaches can share their knowledge and help others progress. They also allow young people to come together to learn how to play basketball,” he said.
Conclusion
FIBA Africa Camps aim to develop the next generation of African talents by focusing on technical and physical skills and essential values such as solidarity and community spirit. These camps represent a gateway to sporting and personal success for the young participants.
