Cameroon: Creation of an industrial-port zone in Dibamba, a partnership between ARISE IIP and the Autonomous Port of Douala

Signing of the agreement for a major project

On September 30, 2024, ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms (ARISE IIP), a pan-African developer of industrial parks, announced the signing of a partnership agreement with the Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD). This partnership aims to create an industrial-port zone in Dibamba, located west of Douala, on an area of 517 hectares. The project is part of a public-private partnership (PPP) and provides for the development of an industrial ecosystem including a multimodal logistics area, an integrated industrial park, a one-stop shop for administrative formalities and a vocational training center to strengthen local skills.

Objectives and strategic sectors targeted

The project aims to attract investors, both local and international, in several key sectors. These include agro-industry, wood processing, construction materials and pharmaceuticals. To support these initiatives, plots of different sizes will be made available depending on the needs of investors. The zone will also offer several incentives, including tax and customs benefits, as well as easier access to international markets, thus increasing the attractiveness for businesses.

A strategic project for Cameroon

The first initiative of its kind in Cameroon, the Dibamba industrial-port zone will be directly connected to the port of Douala, via the N3 national road and by sea. This project will create a link between port facilities and industrial activities, thus promoting the local transformation of resources. Environmental protection measures, including the conservation of sensitive areas, are also part of the development plans for the zone.

A major impact on employment and the local economy

By creating this industrial-port zone, ARISE IIP and the Autonomous Port of Douala hope to generate thousands of jobs, while contributing to sustainable economic growth for Cameroon and the CEMAC region. According to Gagan Gupta, Founder and Managing Director of ARISE IIP, this project will enhance local resources and stimulate international investment, thus creating a world-class industrial ecosystem.

Conclusion

The Dibamba industrial-port zone project represents a strategic step forward for Cameroon. By attracting investments in key sectors and offering attractive incentives, this initiative will strengthen the country’s economic competitiveness while generating jobs and contributing to the sustainable growth of the region.
