CAN U17 2025: Morocco strike hard from the outset against Uganda
A thunderous start
Morocco got their CAN U17 2025 campaign off to a perfect start by crushing Uganda 5-0. In front of Mohammedia’s El Bachir stadium, the Atlas Cubs put in an impressive performance, combining power, control and efficiency.
From the kick-off, Ilies Belmokhtar and Driss Aït Chiekh quickly took the lead, putting pressure on the Ugandans. Ziyad Baha added another from the penalty spot before Belmokhtar scored twice just before the break. Chouaib Bellaarouch, imperial in the Moroccan goal, repelled the rare opposing attempts before Baha sealed the score in the 71st minute.
Morocco in search of a first U17 title
As hosts of the tournament, Morocco is dreaming of a historic coronation. Their squad, made up of players from the Mohammed VI Academy, Wydad, FUS and the European diaspora, has high ambitions. However, history recalls that in the CAN U17, only the host country Gambia (2005) managed to win the title.
Senegal, defending champions and great rivals
Among the main contenders, Senegal is the favorite. The defending champions enter the tournament with a new generation of players under the leadership of Pape Ibrahima Faye. Modest though he is, the coach refuses to be pressurized:

Conclusion: A Successful First Test, but a Long Way to Go
With this sensational start, Morocco have positioned themselves as serious title contenders. But there’s still a long way to go, and they face a tough challenge against the other tournament favourites. At stake: qualification for the U17 World Cup in Qatar, where 10 African tickets will be distributed.
