Burkina Faso: Hugues Fabrice Zango inaugurates Maison Sport Club for the future of athletics
An innovative project to structure Burkinabe athletics
Hugues Fabrice Zango, world champion and emblematic figure of the triple jump, launches Maison Sport Club (MSC) , an ambitious multi-sport association dedicated to training young athletes in Burkina Faso. With the aim of structuring and modernizing national athletics, the club organized its first recruitment tests in December 2024 in Ouagadougou.
First detection tests promising
These first selections took place on three dates: December 3, 7 and 14, 2024 , and attracted nearly 100 young people aged 14 to 17. The participants were subjected to various athletics events, including:
- Sprint and speed : to assess speed performance.
- Jumps and explosive power : to measure intrinsic physical qualities.
- Triple jump competition with reduced run-up : to detect promising technical talents.
According to Hugues Fabrice Zango, the results are encouraging:
“I saw fast youngsters who jump far, certainly stronger than me when I started.”
Towards vocational training for selected talents
At the end of these tests, 20 young athletes will be selected to follow professional training under the supervision of the champion and his team. Maison Sport Club also plans to extend its activities to other cities in Burkina Faso in order to reach a greater number of young talents.
A breath of fresh air for Burkinabe athletics
This project marks a first in the history of athletics in Burkina Faso. Driven by Zango’s international experience, the MSC aims to breathe new life into local sport:
“After everything I have seen abroad, it was time to bring back new ideas to boost athletics in Burkina Faso.”
