Under paramilitary control since October 2023, this crossroads town, vital for trade with the Central African Republic and South Sudan, has become a crucial logistical and military center for the RSF. The Sudanese army is now preparing to launch an offensive to retake Nyala, preventing the consolidation of a parallel government and limiting the risk of partitioning the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A city under siege<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside Nyala, tension is palpable. According to several local sources, the RSF have fortified their positions, dug trenches, and laid mines, particularly around the airport, a key point of the paramilitary force. Worried residents fear the imminence of violent fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sudanese intelligence services report that the airport is used to transport weapons, mercenaries, and evacuate high-ranking wounded personnel to Dubai. According to leaks relayed by&nbsp;<em>Sudan Tribune<\/em>&nbsp;, a UN expert report accuses Abu Dhabi of supplying the RSF with a Chinese-made FK-2000 air defense system. Satellite images confirm the presence of radars and electronic jamming devices near the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transport of this equipment via the Chadian town of Amdjarass reinforces the importance for the army of neutralizing this airport in order to cut off supplies to the FSR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nyala, future capital of a parallel government?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond its military role, Nyala is now at the center of a political battle. On the ground, the RSF are seeking to project an image of normalcy, multiplying initiatives to show that life is returning to normal, including through the presence of police on the streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to several local sources, all preparations are underway to proclaim a parallel government led by the RSF coalition in Nyala.
