This reinforcement is designed to improve service on existing lines and to support the commissioning of <strong>phase 2 of the project<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Strategic expansion of the rail network<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Minister of Land and Air Transport, <strong>Yankhoba Di\u00e9m\u00e9<\/strong>, confirmed that <strong>21 trainsets are currently in circulation<\/strong>, compared with the <strong>original 15<\/strong>. The new units will be deployed on <strong>the 19 km extension<\/strong> linking <strong>Blaise Diagne International Airport to Thi\u00e8s and Mbour<\/strong>. This expansion is designed to <strong>improve the flow of traffic<\/strong> between Dakar and its airport, located some 50 km from the city center.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A growing success since 2021<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since its entry into service in <strong>December 2021<\/strong>, the TER has established itself as a <strong>key means of transport<\/strong> in and around the capital. In <strong>2024, over 21 million passengers<\/strong> used the network, according to Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d&#8217;Exploitation et de Maintenance du TER (SETER). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Phase 1<\/strong> of the project currently carries up to <strong>115,000 passengers a day<\/strong>. With these new additions, the TER aims to <strong>carry 300,000 passengers a day<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion: A quantum leap for urban mobility<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The addition of new trains marks a <strong>key stage in the development of the Dakar TER<\/strong>, reinforcing its capacity and its role in the <strong>modernization of transport in Senegal<\/strong>.
