This announcement was made by the <strong>National Tripartite Committee (NTC)<\/strong> in a communiqu\u00e9 dated <strong>February 20, 2025<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Background and reasons for the Upgrade<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CNT took this decision in consideration of the major economic challenges facing the country, including:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High inflation<\/strong>, reaching <strong>23.5%<\/strong> in January 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An unemployment rate<\/strong> of <strong>3.1%<\/strong> in 2023.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rising <strong>cost of living<\/strong> and corporate sustainability concerns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The need to stimulate employment and economic growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guidelines for Employers<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CNT recommends that :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The minimum wage is <strong>tax-exempt<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All employers whose minimum wages are below this new rate must <strong>adjust<\/strong> them <strong>before the implementation date<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Government Measures<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President <strong>John Dramani Mahama<\/strong> has launched initiatives to improve the well-being of citizens, including:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>abolition of taxes deemed oppressive<\/strong>, such as the E-levy and the covid tax.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finance Minister <strong>Cassiel Ato Baah Forson<\/strong>&#8216;s announcement in January of a<strong>&#8220;war on wasteful spending<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SMJN revision history<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This follows on from the <strong>January 1, 2024<\/strong> increase, when the minimum wage was raised from <strong>14.88 GHS<\/strong> to <strong>18.15 GHS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new increase in the SMJN in Ghana reflects a desire to improve workers&#8217; living conditions while supporting economic stability.
