Chad has reached an important milestone in its institutional evolution with the official installation of its 69 senators, marking the start of the new chamber’s first legislature. The ceremony took place in N’Djamena over the weekend, in the presence of the country’s political and institutional authorities. <\/p>\n\n
Dr. Haroun Kabadi, former president of the National Transitional Council and ex-president of the National Assembly, was acclaimed to preside over the new institution. At his investiture, he expressed his commitment to carrying out his mission with “wisdom, determination and respect for the constitution”. He declared: “While I appreciate the magnitude of the task and the weight of the burden, I accept it. Yes, I wholeheartedly accept this choice of me, because it is the umpteenth call of the fatherland.” <\/p>\n\n
In addition to its parliamentary role, the Senate of Chad also plays a consultative role, formulating resolutions and recommendations addressed to the President of the Republic and members of the government. These contributions are aimed at strengthening institutional governance and supporting the reforms necessary for the country’s development. <\/p>\n\n
