Entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in Africa, both in job creation and in the continent’s economic development . Recognizing this, the Jim Leech Mastercard Foundation has opened applications for the 2024 cohort of its Entrepreneurship Training Program . This virtual program is designed to help African students and recent graduates acquire the skills needed to launch and grow their own businesses.

The 8-month program targets young Africans from all fields and countries of the continent, whether they already have an entrepreneurial project in progress or are still looking for an idea to develop. The main objective is to provide them with the tools and skills needed to create businesses capable of generating both social impact and financial return .

To participate, a good command of English is required. However, candidates who do not speak English can partner with someone who can meet the language requirements of the program. This flexibility aims to include as many young talents as possible in the process.

The program offers intensive training, including a business bootcamp led by Queen’s University professors and industry leaders . Participants will also benefit from live workshops on key topics such as marketing , goal setting and recruiting . In addition, fellows will receive financial support , personalized coaching and access to a network of mentors . A special feature of the program is coaching on mastering the pitch and the application of a business development method inspired by the teachings of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) .

By providing young Africans with access to resources, financial support and a network of mentors, the Jim Leech Mastercard Foundation aims to remove barriers to entrepreneurship in Africa. On the continent, entrepreneurship is seen as a response to the challenges of unemployment , with 74.6% of the population considering this path as a good career choice , according to the Observatoire de la francophonie économique.

The programme also aims to encourage innovative solutions that will contribute to the sustainable development of the continent. Interested candidates have until 4 December to submit their applications.

The Jim Leech Mastercard Foundation Entrepreneurship Training Program provides an exceptional opportunity for young Africans to develop their skills and embark on entrepreneurship.
