Mali: Multiple Financial Inspections at the Olympic Committee
After the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an audit is necessary
Following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Malian National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSM) is facing a series of financial inspections, initiated due to controversial management of public funds. Indeed, the State had released 368 million CFA francs for the Games, but the CNOSM claims to have received only 93,921,633 CFA francs, leaving a gap of more than 274 million. This situation prompted the Minister of Sports, Adoul Kassim Fomba, to order a financial audit and to refuse to receive the president of the CNOSM, Habib Sissoko, who has held this position for more than 24 years.
An intervention by the Auditor General
Faced with the scale of the suspicions, Mali’s Auditor General, Samba Alhamadou Baby, has decided to take charge of the case. His team is investigating the origin and use of the subsidies granted to the CNOSM. In addition, the Economic Pole is planning another inspection, based on a complaint from Sidy Bagayoko, president of the Malian Cycling Federation and opponent of Habib Sissoko.
Conclusion
These multiple inspections highlight opaque financial management within the CNOSM. The transparency of these investigations will be crucial to restore confidence in the Malian sports administration and enable better management of public funds.
