Cameroon: Key figures on Marc Brys’ list for CAN 2025 qualifiers

Coach Marc Brys has unveiled an expanded list of 26 players for the final qualifying matches for the 2025 AFCON against Namibia and Zimbabwe, scheduled for November 13 and 19. Although Cameroon has already qualified, this selection mixes youth and experience, and reveals three notable figures.

Three new players in the selection

Marc Brys has brought three new talents into the selection: Arthur Avom (FC Lorient) and Younoussa Wilitty (Rodez). These two young players have stood out this season in Europe. Avom, a 19-year-old midfielder, has established himself in the Lorient eleven with 11 starts and 4 assists. His potential was revealed at the Francophone Games in 2023, where he won the title.

Wilitty, meanwhile, has become a pillar of the Rodez team in the French Ligue 2, with 13 starts and one goal. His consistency and solid performances have earned him a place among the Indomitable Lions today.

Two former returnees

Brys also recalled two veterans who had not been called up for some time: Yvan Neyou and Darlin Yongwa . Neyou, not selected since November 2023, shone with Leganes in Spain, contributing to the promotion to La Liga with 35 games played last season. This season, he continues to play in the Spanish championship, accumulating 8 starts and one goal.

Lorient defender Yongwa also returns. He has played 12 games in Ligue 2 this season, actively contributing to his team’s success. The return of these experienced players is a testament to Brys’ confidence in their ability to strengthen defensive stability and provide strategic depth to the team.

A player without a club

A special case in the list is that of Fai Collins , the 32-year-old right-back, without a club since July 2024. Despite his lack of a professional contract, he retains a place in the selection, strong in his experience in international competition. Although this raises questions about his physical form, his experience could provide psychological and strategic support to the younger ones.

Conclusion: a balanced and promising selection

Marc Brys’ list for the final AFCON 2025 qualifiers highlights a balance between promising young talents and experienced veterans. With the integration of new players in form and the return of pillars, the Cameroon team seems well prepared for the challenges ahead, despite questions surrounding some choices.
