An ambitious project to modernize Tchibanga airport

Construction of the new Tchibanga airport, located in Nyanga province, was officially launched by Dieudonné Loïc Ndinga Moudouma , Gabonese Minister of Transport. Initially planned as a renovation project, the government finally opted for a complete reconstruction of the infrastructure dating from 2006.

A development in two main phases

The construction project will take place in two distinct stages:

Phase 1: Basic infrastructure

Estimated to last three months, this phase includes the implementation of:

• From a modern terminal with technical and administrative areas,
• From a control tower,
• From a security center,
• Track marking to ensure safe operations.

Phase 2: Installation of necessary equipment

The second phase, also scheduled to last three months, will involve the integration of equipment and facilities essential for commercial flights, thereby strengthening the airport’s operational capacity.

A project included in a national reform plan

The new airport is part of the reforms of the Gabonese airport sector, many of whose infrastructures are aging. The current Tchibanga airport suffers from several shortcomings:

• Absence of fences,
• Lack of equipment for fire fighting,
• Malfunctions in weather and communication systems.

The main objective of this project is to bring the airport into line with international standards, which will allow:
